Holiday Party & Awards, 12/7/2014

TIYC will decorate the club and put up a tree on December 7th. This will be followed by a white elephant gift exchange and awards.
Schedule of Fun:

Start at 3 pm to decorate the club for the Holidays

White Elephant Gift Exchange around 5 pm after the decorating.

Pizza and a salad will be supplied – Costco’s best. Meal cost- $5 each.

Please be our guest for the festivities.

Rules for White Elephant Gift Exchange – $10 limit – re-gifting is encouraged, so bring that ugly tie or sweater your Aunt gave you and wrap it up.

The rules, as I remember them, are: we draw for order – then select a gift, or you can steal another person’s gift.

A gift may be stolen a maximum of three times. The person that went first, if they haven’t had a chance to steal a gift, gets to steal when all others have drawn. If this is not correct- let me know!!  Or we can have a few drinks and negotiate at the party.

In Memorium – George Knies 1933-2014

It is with great sadness that we report our beloved friend and one of the founders of Treasure Island Yacht Club, George Knies, has passed over the bar. He passed away the morning of 30-July-2014 in his sleep at his home surrounded by his wife and family.
George was Commodore of TIYC in 1984, has served for a long time as the Corporate Secretary and also was the editor of the “JIBE” newsletter.
George was very active with the Navy League and the US Naval Sailing Association.  He was involved in getting the Navy 44 sailing vessel  “Courageous” to be berthed in Richmond, CA as part of the NROTC training for UC Berkeley.
In addition to being a distinguished carrier based Naval air pilot, George was an accomplished Marine lawyer. He has served as the PICYA legal committee chair and was the legal officer for the International Order of the Blue Gavel and recently he worked with the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary as well as local yachting associations.
George was a Certified Race Officer with the Yacht Racing Association of San Francisco Bay and a US Sailing, Senior Race Officer.  In addition he worked to bring the Tall Ships to visit San Francisco Bay.
George was the 2007 recipient of The Robert S. Olson Memorial Poseidon Award given by PICYA to recognize those persons who have performed outstanding service to the boating community.
If you would like to share a memory of George, please click on comments below.  We will share them with George’s family.
Services for George Knies were held on Saturday, 30-August-2014, 1:30 pm at the San Ramon Valley Methodist Church located at 902 Danville Boulevard, Alamo, CA 94507-2420.
An Eight Bells Ceremony for CDR George Knies, (USN Ret) was held at the Treasure Island Yacht Club on Sunday, 31-August-2014.  It was concluded with a three shot cannon volley in Clipper Cove with the approval of the USCG.
