Please join two of Treasure Island’s most cherished organizations, the Treasure Island Museum (TIM) and Treasure Island Yacht Club (TIYC), for an evening of discovery with our nearby friends.
As you already know, Treasure Island is soon to begin redevelopment, and this means that some of the anchor organizations will move to new locations. Before that happens, let’s have a party! Both organizations have full schedules. Saturday September 12th is the best date both groups have before colder weather sets in.
We’ll start with “Behind the Scenes” at the Treasure Island Museum: Please join our Collections Manager, Brianna Jilson, when she takes us into the archives to see some of the highlights from our collection.
TIYC will open the bar with chips and snacks while the chef toils over a hot grill to serve your choice of Prime Rib Steaks, Salmon Steaks, or Giant Portobello Mushrooms with several salads and sides followed by coffee and dessert. $20pp.
After coffee and dessert, TIM board president, Walt Bilofsky, will aim his telescope toward the skies in the tradition of San Francisco’s own Sidewalk Astronomers in a classic Star Party. Learn what the Mobjects are, see the rings of Saturn and Mountains on the Moon…weather permitting.
4pm TIYC bar opens with snacks.
5pm TIM Behind-the-Scenes tour of the Museum.
6pm TIYC Steak Dinner.
7pm TIYC coffee and dessert.
8pm TIYC short walking tour of the cove to the new TIYC location.
9pm TIM Star Party – discover the stars…until whenever.
Please enter your entree choice and club affiliation in the columns provided.

Meaning of the Veterans Remembered Flag:
– The Flag depicts the founding of our nation by the thirteen stars that emanate from the hoist to the large red star that represents our Nation and the five branches of our country’s military that defend her.
– The white star indicates the Veteran’s dedication to service.
– The blue star honors all who serve in the military in the past, present, and future.
– The gold star memorializes those who fell defending our Nation.
– The green field represents the hallowed ground where all rest eternally.
About Memorial Day
Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30. It is believed that date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country. Several people have reported being stopped from going under the Eastern Span of the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge by the Coast Guard.
To assist boaters who wish to visit Clipper Cove on Treasure Island we recommend looking at the charts which are attached to the Local Notice to Mariners for District 11, Week 19. The Safety Zone extends 100 yards around the SFOBB from Yerba Buena Island to the “I” Pier through 31 December 2015. An Alternate Channel has been designated.
Follow the attached link to view these chartlets.

On April 18th, Coyote Point will cruise-in to TIYC for Pirate Burgers.
Currently, they’re at only 10 members, but their club is like ours – lots of last minute participation, so we could have nearly 20. With our own group, we may see 30 or more. Please help make this a memorable experience for Coyote Point. We will probably cruise to their club this year, so let’s put on the Pirate Ritz — AhRRRR!
As usual, I will purchase the grub on Saturday late morning, so if you want something special, please email me back.
Meanwhile, the menu will be:
- Doubloons with Rotted Grub Worms in Strained Curdled Milk (Potato Chips & Onion Dip)
- Crunchy Monkey Fingers, Crisp Green Daggers, Squishy Red Eyballs, etc. with Mermaid Goo (Veggie Plate/Dip)
- Steamed Bunny Poo in it’s own sauce – A landlubber’s favorite (Baked Beans)
- Chunky Cubes of Beach Tubers with Green and Yellow Bits (Potato Salad)
- …and the Main Coarse (sic) – Arrrr-PiraTe Burgggers
- followed by some form of dessert…which I will accept recommendations for.
People We Need at 4pm: one or two behind the bar, two to help with Pirate Burger prep and cooking two to setup/take down tables and chairs two to set out snacks and dinner on the buffet all of the above to help clean-up

Encinal Cruise-In – March 28th
Dinner with Friends!
Please join us at the club as we entertain our friends from Encinal Yacht Club. Every year about this time, we have the pleasure of a cruise-in from the Encinal, and it’s always loads of fun.
This year, they’ve chosen the last weekend of the month, and that means the Treasure Island Flea Market will be on the island, so why not spend a few hours walking through Building One, then help with dinner with TIYC. We’ll need a few folks to cook, more to set up and serve, and all hands to clean up afterwards.
Although it’s not fully settled, we expect to be preparing a Steak and Fish menu with all the extras for $20…and a $5 discount for TIYC members who help.
I’ve made an RSVP page:
So please click there, add your name, and if you’re volunteering to bring a dish (reimbursable), please enter your name in one of the pre-defined lines.
Any specific questions, please call or text: 510-589-7410 cell

Hi Everyone (again),
One week after the New Members Appreciation Dinner, we have my special day – Our celebration of St. Paddy’s Day on March 14th, with Shamrock Shenanigans. Perhaps a race, perhaps a cruise, but we’ll have food for sure. Can anyone guess what it will be?
Don’t be left out of this one. It’s a chance to get out on the water and come back to the club for a great meal for less money than you would spend if you did it yourself.
We’ll start somewhat early, so plan on being ready to roll out onto the water around 10am or so.
When was that again? March 14th: 10am cruise/race training/play on the water, dinner at 5:30.
Mark your calendars!
— Will Smith —
